What is the mission and philosophy of The Sharon School?
The mission of The Sharon School is to provide a developmental appropriate, academically sound foundation based upon the premise that God is the source of all knowledge. Children are viewed as persons who love to learn, reflecting the image of their Creator.
The Sharon School is a ministry of Sharon Baptist Church. We believe:
· In the all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present God who reveals himself as father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
· In Jesus Christ, who was fully divine and human, lived a sinless life, died a perfect sacrifice, rose, and will return.
· In the Holy Spirit, who lives to guide, inspire, convict of sin, and provide gifts to enable the church to minister.
· In the Bible as God’s Word, inspired by God, truth without error, and complete in revealing God’s will.
· In salvation as only found in Christ, the only solution to the penalty of sin, and something that cannot be taken away.
· In baptism as an outward expression of an inward change in the life of a believer. It is not a means of salvation.
· In communion as a symbol of Christ’s sacrifice, a sacrament available only to born again believers.
· In the church as the body of Christ, of which He is head, made up of different born again people with varying gifts and abilities.
Christian education demands that we see every subject as a part of the total truth of God. Spiritually, education must deal with God and what He has shown or has to say about the world and man. Integration on another level is also critical: we strive to equip students with the ability and desire to live out this truth in personal experience. Academically, education should offer the best possible approaches and curriculum for each grade level based on the highest possible developmentally appropriate standards and research about how children learn.
Our role is to aid you, not replace you, in the overall educational process taking place in your child’s life. We are an extension of the home.
Our most important educational goal is to encourage children to become life-long learners who are not afraid to try new things or ask questions about the world around them.
We carefully plan our school environment, design meaningful learning activities, select appropriate curriculum and materials, and choose excellent children’s literature to help facilitate the achievement of these goals. Our approach is balance, thorough, and integrated. We are committed to excellence in all areas and constantly evaluate our program.

In the elementary school, our class size in kindergarten is limited to ten students in order that we may provide as much individual attention and instruction as possible. For the same reasons, our class size for grades one and two is twelve; grade three is fourteen; grades four - seventh is sixteen. Classes also share an assistant.
space
We believe that our small class size makes an enormous difference in the early years as students develop the foundation of reading, writing, and mathematical thinking.

How is the curriculum organized?
The Curriculum Committee of The Sharon School Ministry Team has spent considerable time and prayer researching area private Christian schools, the education systems of states with excellence in education, and the state of Georgia to find the best combination of standards. Our School Standards incorporate the belief that in the younger grades, the curriculum should be based on a multi-sensory approach that teaches children to be critical thinkers so they are able to draw conclusions and use high level thinking skills on their own. In the older grades, as children transition from hands-on, concrete exploration to mental and theoretic applications, instruction should be fostered in a way that engages students and leads them on the path of independent, academically disciplined processes of thought.
The Standards document lists the curriculum expectations for the students for every subject in each grade of The Sharon School. While each child in our school is an individual developing at his/her own pace, these guidelines represent milestones to reach, processes to develop, and objectives to teach in our classes. The Standards provide the framework for each teacher’s planning and for the purchase and use of curriculum materials and resources.
Our School Standards Guide is a living document, meaning that we will constantly revisit and revise, based on experience in the classroom, the children of our school, current research, and national standards. Each grade builds upon previous years with a minimum of repetition, unless repetition is needed for skill development. This guide is also used to document your child’s progress at evaluation times. Due to the length of the document, it is available for your review from the front office.

Do the students participate in standardized testing?
Our elementary students take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills each year. For the past three years, our school average has been in the 98% percentile or higher for all subjects. This means that on average, our students preformed better on the tests than 98% of other students their age who took the same test.
Are the teachers qualified?
Our preschool teachers are growing Christians in full accord with the beliefs, principles, and philosophy of The Sharon School. They have spiritual giftedness or natural ability in the area of teaching, a genuine love of preschoolers, and experience in working with preschoolers. A teaching certificate is preferred for our preschool teachers, but not required.
In the elementary school, our teachers are also growing Christians in full accord with the beliefs, principles, and philosophy of The Sharon School. They have spiritual giftedness or natural ability in the area of teaching and are able to meet the requirements for State Certification as recorded on www.gapsa.com (Georgia Professional Standards Association). Each one of them has a genuine love of children. Our current faculty has an average of ten years experience.
All employees of The Sharon School, both faculty and staff, agree to background checks before employment.
